Our list of accomplishments…a long list

What we planned and what we actually accomplished in this phase of the remodel:

Planned and accomplished

  •   All of the floors have been upgraded to hardwood, to match the first floor (goodbye carpet)
  •    We  removed the small railing at the bottom of the stairs.
  •    We  added wainscoting to the hallways and stairway.
  •    We removed a  portion of a small wall in the upstairs hallway to improve the available light in that space.
  •    We added crown molding to all  the rooms on the second floor.
  •    We replaced all of the trim on the second floor
  •    Replaced all of the doors with new six panel pine doors – reusing the hardware for quaint charm.
  •    We replaced all of the heater vents on the second floor (these were the originals -Wicked OLD and nasty)
  •    We replaced all of the windows in the entire house – 24+ windows not including the family room windows and doors, or the bay in the kitchen (another project)
  •    Painted all of the second floor rooms and hallways
  •    Installed recessed lighting in the closets, Master BR and Karen’s office

Planned but did not do

  •   Add a pull down stairway to the attic – we did not install one because of space issues

Added to the list mid project

  •    We added crown molding to the living room and dining room on the first floor
  •    We repainted the living room and dining room walls
  •    We replaced the heater vents in the living room and dining room
  •    Added a small utility closet in the upstairs hallway
  •    Lit all of the closets with door activated automatic switches
  •   Replaced all of the hall lighting
  •   Repainted the book shelves in Karen’s office
  •  Rebuilt all of the closets with closet systems- custom
  •   Added marble thresholds into the two upstairs bathrooms

We must have been insane!

Deck, deck, porch

We are in a bit of a construction lull, having exceeded our original budgets for time and $. We still need to have the final 8 (not 7 as previously mentioned) windows installed. This will entail taking apart my office, and desk… which I am not looking forward to doing… READ procrastination.

I thought I would show some of the unique features that this house has… on the outside. It has two separate decks and a covered porch. We also have a brick patio, but that will be a topic for another post… as it needs a little work and love.

and the PORCH off of the kitchen

I wanted to show what the front of the house looks like now with the new windows fully installed.

Next year we are looking at removing the siding and using modern materials to update the look and feel of the house.

P.s. The flag was re-positioned and is now upright as it should be.
