We have light… and almost closets

The detail work continues and we are still not quite at the end. It looks like we may be finished by this Sunday.

They installed the new light in the hallway, and it looks very nice.

I like the yellow color of the light coming from the fixture. It has a very warming tone.

I also like the juxtaposition of the older style space and the new, more modern fixture.

This is a similar concept to what we did in the Kitchen.

The closets are being installed and this should make a big difference in the available space and how it is used.

The yellow (now) guest bedroom is still largely unfinished. Three more days until Sunday.

We slept in the MBR last night

We actually slept in the MBR last night. It was certainly good to get into the King bed, with the Tempurpedic mattress. We really missed it.

TempurLOGO

We still need curtains and rugs etc… but it was nice to wake in the new room. Still more work to complete today, finishing touches, closets, and treads on the stairs etc. We are certainly getting there.

Hadley (the Labradoodle) had a hard time last night. She generally sleeps next to me on the floor all night, but she was restless. Without any carpet, it must have been hard. She was up walking around … more like scuttling about, and this woke us up a few times. We eventual called her up in to the bed, the bottom of the bed.

We need to get her a dog bed today.

Starting to move back in… big furniture, check!

The majority of the MBR is done, just some finish work, touch up and the closet system to be installed.

It looks like we will be able to move back into the room this evening. OUTSTANDING!

Karen’s office is almost complete as well. Just need to add parts to the bookshelves and books.

We had discussed adding Karen’s Blue chair, from the Living room, into her office. Looks nice and it really stands out in this room.

Looks like we are hitting the home stretch

The windows arrived on Friday, a few days late, but then again they came from Oregon. They look great and the Leightons have installed

all of the second floor windows already. They still need to be trimmed out, both on the inside and the outside.

This look will certainly transform the outward appearance of the house

The windows will eventually have white exterior trim. This will frame the windows nicely.

Karen and I were driving through Rowley Mass this morning and noticed three historic houses with the black window and white frame treatment that

we will have installed. They looked Awesome, and apparently very unique for our area.

This is the first time we can see the new floors, the new wood work, doors and paint together. This is the hallway at the top of the stairs.

We still need to cap the short wall, and the original thought was to use wood from the new (yet to be installed) stair treads.

We have since changed our minds, and we will be putting on a white top instead.

The front bedroom has been painted, and Karen does not like to color,  it was her choice…. 🙂

It is a bit bright, but bright is better… makes the guests leave earlier … especially the in-laws.  Hmmm.

It looks like we may be repainting it the original yellow from Karen’s office. We will see what  choice is made, I am staying out of this one.

Here you can see the new windows from the inside of the Master Bedroom. They look much larger (read more glass) and that is a good thing.

We had a discussion with the builders about including a sill, as we do not like the

NEW construction look  we had with our last house … too ” unfinished and slapped together” in my opinion.

Old vs. New

It occurred to me that I have begun to forget what the old stairway and hallway looked like. I want to display a before and after (though we are not yet done) set of photos to look at what is happening as this space is transformed.

Final – Well we will have to wait a little longer for this photo

We are starting to see the end …. somewhere in the distance

The trim work is starting to be installed and some of the new doors are up.

We do need to change out the hinges, as we need them to be black.

The hallway has been painted and the color choice looks great against the wainscoting and the other room colors.

The hallway looks nice with the new paint and the crown molding. We should be able to install the new light fixture tomorrow.

You can see the Master BR and the hallway color together in these photos. Nice complimentary hues.

The new doors add a polished look. Love the original (read beat up) hardware…!

The afternoon light was SO GOOD

Sunday 04/14/13 was SO cloudy for most of the day, that it was a pleasant surprise when the sun popped out around 6:30 pm.

The color was stunning, and I took the opportunity to take a few picture of the back of the house, since it was relatively dry and snow free.

Since we are seeing the back of the house here, I thought I would post the front and “other side”  photos here as well.

We are running a few days late… but work continues

We had a couple of down days this past weekend.

The wainscoting in the hall and stairs has been primed and I believe we will start to have some of the trim installed today.

Here are some recent photos of the work.

The stair treads will be replaced with light oak, matching the light floors. The kick plates will be white trim paint. This will be much better than the torn up original wood work. They look like someone took a crowbar to them – nasty.

The small half wall at the top of the stairs will be capped with a similar light oak topper. Should be a nice effect.

Though all of this crown molding will drive us toward installing similar woodwork downstairs.

Crown molding, crown molding …. my kingdom for crown molding

Work continues and we can start to see the finish-line, way off in the distance. We have heard that the windows are due to arrive in Plaistow on 4/16. Seems to be rather quick, given that they left Klamath Falls OR on 4/9.

The crown molding continues to be installed and appears to be going well.

Karen picked up the Racoon Hollow paint. Did I mention that we have spent more than $500 on paint alone. We did not see that coming.  This color is more like it, calming, comfortable and less like tart fruit.

Image

We are also seeing the wainscot being installed on the stairs and in the upstairs hallway. This will all be painted the trim white, and should look great when completed.
